On September 11, 2026, marking the 25th anniversary of the September 11 terrorist attacks, the Daily Journal published a special feature highlighting the extraordinary efforts of more than 1,000 trial lawyers who came together to provide free legal assistance to victims and their families.

The article, titled “Trial lawyers united after 9/11 to help victims obtain compensation,” prominently features CaseyGerry Managing Partner David S. Casey Jr. and his leadership in helping organize Trial Lawyers Care, a nationwide pro bono initiative established in the aftermath of the attacks.

Bringing the Legal Community Together

In the days following September 11, 2001, attorneys across the country began discussing how the legal profession could respond to the tragedy and assist families facing unimaginable loss.

At the time, David S. Casey Jr. was serving as president of the Association of Trial Lawyers of America (ATLA). Recognizing the need for coordinated legal assistance, Casey helped bring together attorneys from across the country to establish Trial Lawyers Care, an organization dedicated to providing free legal representation to eligible victims and their families.

The initiative developed alongside the September 11th Victim Compensation Fund, a federal program established to provide financial compensation to individuals and families affected by the attacks.

According to the Daily Journal, more than 1,000 attorneys volunteered to assist families with the compensation process, offering their time and legal experience without charging attorney fees.

A Nationwide Effort to Support Victims and Families

The Daily Journal feature recounts the challenges involved in organizing such an unprecedented initiative, from coordinating attorneys across multiple states to helping families understand their rights and navigate the federal compensation process.

Under Casey’s leadership, Trial Lawyers Care brought together legal professionals from different backgrounds and practice areas, united by a shared commitment to helping those affected by the attacks.

The program provided families with access to legal guidance during an extraordinarily difficult time, helping them navigate complex claims and make informed decisions about their available options.

The effort demonstrated the important role attorneys can play beyond the courtroom, particularly when communities face circumstances requiring compassion, collaboration, and a commitment to public service.

Reflecting on 25 Years of Service and Remembrance

Twenty-five years after September 11, the work of Trial Lawyers Care remains an important chapter in the legal profession’s history.

The initiative demonstrated how attorneys across the country could set aside professional differences and work together to support individuals and families in need.

For CaseyGerry, David’s involvement reflects a longstanding commitment to civil justice, professional leadership, and service to the broader community.

As we reflect on the 25th anniversary of September 11, we remember those who lost their lives, honor the families whose lives were forever changed, and recognize the many attorneys and volunteers who dedicated their time to helping others in the aftermath of the tragedy.

We are proud to share the Daily Journal’s September 11, 2026, feature highlighting David S. Casey Jr. and the collective efforts of Trial Lawyers Care.
