Allina Health Apple Valley Clinic Data Breach

Apple Valley Clinic, part of Allina Health, has reported a data breach due to a ransomware attack on Netgain Technology LLC, the company’s cloud and technology service vendor. According to the HIPA Journal article, ‘Third Party Data Breaches Reported by Apple Valley Clinic & BioTel Heart,’ the breach affected at least 157,939 Apple Valley Clinic patients who are now being notified.

Netgain Technology LLC, an IT and cloud service provider for health and accounting businesses, experienced a ransomware attack in November 2020. On December 2, 2020, Netgain informed affected clients, including Apple Valley Clinic, that their patients’ information may have been compromised in the attack.

The compromised data included patients’ identifying information such as names, dates of birth, social security numbers; financial and health information including bank accounts, patient billing information, and patient symptoms and diagnoses.
