Sticky Steering Wheel Defect in Honda HR-V Models (2023-2024)

The law firm CaseyGerry is investigating the Sticky Steering defect in Honda HR-V models, a malfunction that causes a momentary increase in steering effort, especially when operating at high speeds. In addition, HR-V owners discussing the issue on the HR-V Reddit forums report that the problem appears to occur frequently in cold weather when driving in rain or snowy conditions, further increasing the danger of collision or loss of control. An additional concern is the lack of trigger warnings alerting drivers to the issue. 

Several complaints by Honda HR-V drivers included reference to the Lane Assist system and a possible correlation between that and the Sticky Steering Wheel defect. 

Dealerships have been unable to help HR-V owners and lessees with this issue, and Honda has yet to resolve the problem. Some Honda owners are being told by dealers that the replacement part to repair the alleged defect will not be available until September 6, 2024, at the earliest. 

CaseGerry initially launched an investigation in March 2023 following an announcement made by the National Highway Traffic Safety Administration (NHTSA) on the impact of the Sticky Steering Wheel defect on more than 238,000 Honda Civic models manufactured between 2022 and 2023. However, in November 2023, after receiving more complaints about the defect in other Honda models, including reports of crashes due to the malfunction, the NHTSA expanded the investigation to more models, bringing up the number of at-risk cars to more than 532,000 Honda vehicles, including the Honda HR-V model (2023–2024).
