St. Joseph’s/Candler (SJ/C), one of the largest healthcare networks in Georgia, has reported a massive data breach that may have affected 1.4 million individuals.
The law firm of CaseyGerry is investigating this cyberattack that has compromised the highly sensitive data of over 1 million patients including identifying, health and financial information.
The HIPPA Journal reported that the Information compromised includes patient:
- Name
- Date of birth
- Address
- Social Security number
- Driver’s license number
- Health insurance plan member ID
- Medical record number
- Provider names
- Treatment information and dates of service
- Financial information
According to the notice of breach on the company website, the cyber security incident was discovered on June 17, 2021 after detecting suspicious activity on the company network. Their investigation revealed that an unauthorized third-party gained access to the systems on December 18, 2020, maintaining access until June 17, 2021 launching a ransomware attack that blocked access to the network system.
On August 10, 2021, St Joseph’s/Candler Health started mailing out breach notification letters to those affected by the December 2020.
