Professional Dental Alliance has reported a data breach that compromised the sensitive information of thousands of patients.
According to an article by the HIPPA Journal, the cyber incident occurred when employees of North American Dental Group, a dental administrative services provider to more than 250 practices across the country, clicked through a phishing email. This allowed the unauthorized party access to information such as patient name, address, phone number, email address and social security number. The breach also exposed patient health-related data such as insurance and dental information, and financial information.
The breach has exposed the sensitive data of at least 125,000 patients nationwide.
