LifeLong Medical Care, a California-based healthcare provider serving the northern-California area, has started notifying LifeLong Medical Care patients that they may have been affected by the Netgain Technologies ransomware attack.
In November 2020, Netgain Technologies LLC, an IT service provider for the health care industry, was hit with a cyber security attack that compromised a growing list of healthcare provider and insurance companies.
According to the LifeLong data breach report on Hippajournal.com, LifeLong Medical Care launched a comprehensive investigation and discovered on August 9, 2021, eight months after Netgain announced the breach, that sensitive data of LifeLong Medical Care patients had been compromised in the Netgain breach. The company started sending out notifications to those affected in late August of 2021.
On August 25, 2021, the company reported the incident to the U.S. Department of Health and Human Services Office for Civil Rights stating that 115, 448 individuals have been impacted by this breach.
Compromised information includes:
- Patient’s full name
- Date of birth
- Social Security Number
- Personal health information such as diagnosis and/or treatment information
- Patient’s cardholder number
