Lawsuit Filed in Elephant Insurance Data Breach

On July 8, 2022, the law firm of CaseyGerry, Webster Book LLP and Lockridge Grindal Nauen P.L.L.P.  filed a lawsuit against Elephant Insurance on behalf of those who received notice of the 2022 Elephant Insurance data breach. According to the Complaint filed, 2,762,687 individuals were affected.

On May 6, 2022, Elephant Insurance reported a breach that may have compromised the highly sensitive data of current and past customers, and individuals who may have submitted information for auto and other insurance quotes.

The compromised information included individual’s name, date of birth and driver’s license number.

According to the Data Breach Notice filed with the Office of the California Attorney General, the company became aware of unusual activity in April 2022 and their investigation revealed that their network system had been accessed by an unauthorized third-party between March 26 and April 1, 2022, and that files were viewed or copied by the perpetrator.
