Lawsuit Against Ford Over Risk of Under-Hood Fire

CaseyGerry has filed a lawsuit against Ford Motor Company over a dangerous defect that may cause vehicles to erupt in fire under the hood.

Ford advertises its 2021 Expedition as “designed with you and your family in mind.” Regarding its 2021 Lincoln Navigator, the company claims that “Every aspect of the Navigator experience is designed with your serenity in mind.” However, these vehicles pose a serious risk of erupting in flames and gravely endangering drivers and passengers.

Ford initially failed to disclose the cause of the fires, simply stating its “investigation is ongoing at this time.” The company later issued a recall (No. 22S36) and submitted a recall to the National Highway Traffic Safety Administration (No. 22V-346) over these serious defects impacting model year 2021 Ford Expeditions and Lincoln Navigators built between July 27, 2020, and August 31, 2021.

Risk of Fire in 2021 Ford Expedition and Lincoln Navigator

These vehicles may erupt in fire under the hood, regardless of whether the ignition is turned on or off. In July 2022, Ford announced the cause of the under-hood fires and a potential remedy. However, depending on each vehicle’s cooling fan system, parts to repair the defects will not be available until September 2022.

In the meantime, Ford advises consumers to “park your vehicle outside away from structures and other property immediately.” For owners who are unable to move their vehicles away, Ford states that the vehicle’s “negative battery cable should be disconnected and securely positioned to the side.” This task effectively disables the vehicle, making it unusable to the owner unless and until the procedure is reversed.

CaseyGerry Files Lawsuit Against Ford

Our firm filed a lawsuit on behalf of a San Diego, CA resident who purchased a new 2021 Ford Expedition in May 2021. The value of his vehicle has been diminished due to the defect. For safety reasons, he no longer uses the vehicle.

If you own a 2021 Ford Expedition or 2021 Lincoln Navigator, it’s important to take this safety risk very seriously. You also may be eligible to file a claim against Ford.
