CaseyGerry’s managing partner David S. Casey, Jr. has been recognized as one of 50 Influential Leaders in San Diego by The Daily Transcript, a leading San Diego business publication. The annual recognition, recently published in a special supplement, covers a wide array of industries – real estate, construction, development, law, finance and the public sector – and spotlights the city’s most influential business leaders in those sectors.
According to the article published in the special section, as a third-generation attorney, Casey Jr.’s own entry in the legal profession was not a foregone conclusion. “My dad tried hundreds of cases. It was the last thing I wanted to do because there was no way I could follow in his footsteps,” Casey, Jr. said.
Now, after 40 years as a trial lawyer, Casey, Jr. continues to find the work immensely rewarding. His landmark cases have had far-reaching consequences, making differences in people’s lives – and sometimes making a broader impact on society. As a result, he has received more than 80 professional awards, including a perpetual award in his honor, the “David S. Casey, Jr. Consumer Advocate Award” from the Consumer Attorneys of San Diego. He was recently honored with a CLAY (California Lawyer of the Year) award for his work on the national VW Multidistrict Litigation (MDL) Plaintiffs’ Steering Committee (PSC) overseeing litigation targeting Volkswagen over its diesel emissions scandal. The PSC negotiated an $11 billion settlement – the largest in consumer class action history.
For the last eight years, he served as state chair for Senator Dianne Feinstein’s judicial selection committee, maintaining a steadfast volunteer commitment to finding the most qualified judicial candidates for the federal bench in California.
“It’s been a rewarding experience for me to give back to the community and to meet the best and brightest of the legal profession,” he said.
