Popular Baby food brands such as Nurture, Inc., Beech-Nut Nutrition, Earth’s Best Organic and Parent’s Choice among others, have been found to contain dangerously high levels of arsenic, cadmium, lead and mercury.
A congressional investigation revealed that several trusted baby food manufacturers had knowledge that their products contained significantly higher levels of metals than was considered safe.
Even more concerning is that mercury, lead, cadmium and arsenic are on the World Health Organization’s list of 10 chemicals of major public health concern including heavy metals. These heavy metals have been found to be damaging to mental development, can disrupt the nervous system and have been linked to chronic diseases.
The investigation also found that the level of toxicity was not significantly different in organic v. non-organic food.
The Congressional report lists the following manufactures:
- Nurture, Inc. (HappyBABY)
- Beech-Nut Nutrition Company (Beech-Nut)
- Hain Celestial Group, Inc. (Earth’s Best Organic)
- Campbell Soup Company (Plum Organics)
- Walmart, Inc brand (Parent’s Choice)
- Sprout Foods, Inc. (Sprout Organic Foods)
