CaseyGerry, on behalf of plaintiffs Isabel Gomes and William Armstrong, has filed a lawsuit in Los Angeles Superior Court against Southern California Edison (SCE) and its parent company, Edison International. The lawsuit seeks damages for the destruction of the couple’s Altadena rental home in the 14,000-acre Eaton Fire, which erupted on January 7, 2025.
According to lead attorney David S. Casey, Jr., eyewitnesses reported SCE power lines sparking above Eaton Canyon, allegedly igniting the massive wildfire. The lawsuit claims that SCE failed to properly maintain its electrical infrastructure and did not clear highly flammable vegetation near its equipment—despite red flag warnings and Santa Ana winds reaching up to 100 mph.
“We believe this fire could have been prevented,” said Casey. “Our clients lost their home, belongings, and sense of security. We are committed to holding SCE accountable for its negligence.”
