Over 100,000 customers and employees of Bosley, a California-based hair transplant and restoration company, may have been affected by a ransomware attack on the company’s network in mid-2020.
The incident was detected on August 17, 2020, when several computers on the company system were infected with ransomware, encrypting files containing sensitive patient and employee information. Compromised information may have included names, Social Security numbers, driver’s license numbers and financial account information.
The company launched an investigation into the incident after retaining legal counsel.
Bosley has at least 90 locations in the US and has provided medical hair services to patients across the United States and in over 60 countries around the world.
The company started sending out notifications on January 26, 2021 – five months after the initial detection.
The CaseyGerry law firm is investigating the data breach and the company’s failure to, firstly, protect sensitive client and employee data, and secondly, to inform those potentially affected within a reasonable time frame.
