CaseyGerry is investigating Waiakea Volcanic Water for misleading customers on the source of their water.
The premium bottled-water company claims that Waiakea Volcanic water is sourced from Hawaii’s Mauna Loa volcano located in the eastern part of Hawaii, “one of the purest environments on Earth.” The company’s website further provides that the water originates through snowmelt and rain and is filtered through lava rock. Although impressive, does this justify the $3/bottle price tag?
Customers may not think so after they learn that the company sources its water from the very same place residents receive theirs – for free, meaning that customers are paying $3.00 per liter for tap water.
In addition, the ‘Hawaii proud’ company has its water shipped from Hawaii to the company’s headquarters in Culver, California, and then bottled and distributed from there.
Waiakea Volcanic Water has succesfully positioned itself as dedicated to health, sustainability and ethics, however, some of its business practices appear to be quite the opposite.
