Optometry patients in California are receiving a notice of a data breach that compromised patients’ highly personal identifiable and sensitive information such as social security numbers.
Total Vision LLC, a California-based network of optometry providers, experienced a cyberattack on October 30, 2020 when a server containing patient information such as name, address, date of birth, social security number and prescription information, was accessed by an unauthorized party.
Although cyber criminals are becoming more adept at breaking through companies’ cyber security systems, it is the company’s responsibility to provide the utmost security for their customers who have trusted them with personal and sensitive information. This is especially true in the health care arena where information such as prescriptions, diagnoses and more could, in the wrong hands, devastate an individual’s financial and personal life.
