SAN DIEGO (June 2017) – In its May/June 2017 issue, Our City San Diego magazine lauded the top attorneys San Diego, naming Casey Gerry partner David S. Casey, Jr. as among 12 “Litigators of the Year.”
Our City – a publication focusing on San Diego economics, business and politics – honored attorneys who have had remarkable successes over the last year, highlighting Casey, Jr. for his tireless work ”battling for the family of Mr. San Diego” – Padres great Tony Gwynn.
Last year, Casey, Jr. filed a lawsuit in San Diego Superior Court seeking to hold the tobacco industry accountable for Gwynn’s death. The suit alleged that the Altria Group (formerly Phillip Morris) induced Gwynn to use smokeless tobacco via targeted marketing efforts when he was a star Padres player. After using smokeless tobacco for 12 years, Gwynn died at age 54 from salivary gland cancer.
Casey, Jr., a La Jolla resident, has helped clients in a complex range of high profile cases relating to the tobacco industry, aviation, maritime, premises liability, faulty equipment, government tort claims, complex motorcycle accidents, product liability, trucking and automobile crashes.
He currently serves on the national VW Multidistrict Litigation (MDL) Plaintiffs’ Steering Committee overseeing litigation targeting Volkswagen over its diesel emissions scandal – one of the largest in class action history.
