3.3 Million People Affected by Audi and Volkswagen Data Breach

According to the U.S. News article, VW Says Data Breach at Vendor Impacted 3.3 Million People in North America, a vendor serving Audi, Volkswagen, and some authorized dealers in North America was breached when an unauthorized third-party gained access to the vendor’s network between August 2019 and May 2021 affecting 3.3 million individuals.

The Notice of Data Breach sent out to those impacted, stated that their investigation revealed that personal information, including information gathered from customers and potential customers for marketing purposes between 2014 and 2019, was compromised.

Information accessed includes:

  • Full name
  • Date of birth
  • Social Security number
  • Tax ID number
  • Mailing address (personal and business)
  • Email address
  • Phone number
  • Driver’s license number
  • VIN
  • Make and model of the car
  • Financial information regarding loan eligibility
  • Account and loan information
