Nationwide Recall of Packaged Foods Announced

An Oregon-based food manufacturing company is expanding a nationwide product recall of refrigerated packaged foods – including potato, pasta, tuna and chicken salads as well as coleslaw and salsa – due to possible contamination.

Reser’s Fine Foods of Beaverton, Oregon voluntarily recalled more than 100,000 cases of refrigerated foods and 22,800 pounds of chicken, ham and beef products, but said there were no reports of illness. The recalled ready-to-eat products were distributed throughout the U.S. and Canada, and the company initially announced the recall Saturday. ABC News Report on Recall

The products originated from a company factory in Topeka, Kan. and were reportedly tainted with Listeria, an organism that can cause serious and sometimes fatal infections in young children, the elderly and those with weakened immune systems. Additionally, Listeria can lead to miscarriages in pregnant women and serious illness for those with weakened immune systems.

Symptoms of Listeria may include fever, headache, abdominal pain and diarrhea. Nationwide Food Recall Expands
