Smile Brands Data Breach

Smile Brands Inc., a business support provider for dental offices nationwide, has reported a data breach that has exposed employees’ and other individuals’ sensitive data to potential risk.

According to the Individual notice of breach filed in September 2021, the company became aware of suspicious activity on April 24, 2021. They discovered that their systems were infected with ransomware and certain data was already accessed by the nefarious party. A secondary notification to Smile Brands employees was also sent.

The compromised data included identifying information such as name, address, Social Security Number, date of birth, and government issued identification number. The exposed files also included phone numbers, financial information, and personal health information.
