SmartStart Employment Screening Data Breach

CaseyGerry is investigating the SmartStart Employment Screening, Inc. data breach that may have compromised the sensitive information of over 75,000 individuals.

SmartStart Employment Screening, Inc. provides employment screening as well as employee background checks for companies.

In the notice of breach sent out, the company reported that the incident was first discovered in December 2020. After becoming aware of suspicions activity on the company’s network the company launched an investigation.

The investigation revealed that sensitive identifying information was exposed including names, driver’s license numbers, or non-driver identification card numbers.  The company began to notify those impacted in August of 2021.
