PARTNERS LISTED IN 2010 SUPER LAWYERS

SAN DIEGO, Calif. – Super Lawyers magazine has once again named CaseyGerry partners Gayle M. Blatt, David S. Casey Jr., Robert J. Francavilla, Thomas D. Penfield, and Frederick Schenk in its prestigious annual ranking of top attorneys, recognizing two partners – Casey and Francavilla – among the top 50 in San Diego.

The CaseyGerry partners will be featured in San Diego Super Lawyers 2010, a highly rated annual legal services directory, and also highlighted in Super Lawyers magazine.

Each year, Super Lawyers ranks the top five percent of attorneys in San Diego and other regions throughout the United States. The listing includes lawyers from more than 70 practice areas who have attained a high degree of peer recognition and professional achievement. Attorneys selected are chosen by their peers through a multi-step process, including extensive polling, peer evaluations and independent research. Prior to final selection, each candidate is fully reviewed by the publication’s research staff as well.

Meeting Super Lawyers’ stringent criteria, all five Casey Gerry partners have considerable expertise in various aspects of consumer law.

Gayle M. Blatt, a longtime University City resident, was recently appointed Liaison Counsel for the growing number of Hydroxycut personal injury cases in Multi-District Litigation now pending in the Southern District of California. In addition, she is past president of the Consumer Attorneys of San Diego (CASD), and a two-time recipient of the organization’s  “Outstanding Trial Lawyer” award. Earning numerous multi-million dollar results for her clients, she concentrates her practice on personal injury, pharmaceutical and product liability litigation.

A past president of the Association of Trial Lawyers of America (ATLA), now known as the American Association for Justice, David S. Casey, Jr. was tapped by Senator Diane Feinstein to oversee the judicial nomination process for President Obama. A third generation attorney, he specializes in serious personal injury and wrongful death cases, earning numerous professional awards and obtaining successful verdicts and settlements for dozens of well-known cases throughout his three-decade career.

Concentrating on all aspects of serious personal injury and wrongful death, Robert J. Francavilla has attained multi-million dollar results in highway design, automobile accident and premises liability cases. A past president of Consumer Attorneys of San Diego, he has also been honored with its “Outstanding Trial Lawyer Award” on four occasions. Francavilla is also a member of the American Board of Trial Advocates (ABOTA), and is a frequent lecturer to the trial bar, both on a statewide and national basis.

With significant experience in personal injury, products liability, class actions and civil litigation, Thomas D. Penfield is chair of the Task Force on Plaintiff’s Involvement of the Tort, Insurance Practice Section (TIPS) of the American Bar Association (ABA) a member of The Fellows of the American Bar Foundation (ABF), and is immediate past president of the Bar Association of North San Diego County. Prior to joining Casey Gerry, Penfield was a Professor of Law at the University of San Diego (USD) School of Law, where he still teaches as an adjunct professor.

A partner with CaseyGerry for more than two decades, Frederick Schenk specializes in asbestos litigation, products and premises liability. A member of the American Board of Trial Advocates (ABOTA), he was recently elected to serve on the Board of Governors of the American Association for Justice (AAJ), the world’s largest trial bar. In addition, he has served as president of the Consumers Attorneys of San Diego and was a recipient of their “Outstanding Trial Lawyer Award.” Schenk is also past-president of the Washington, D.C.-based Civil Justice Foundation.
