HME Specialists, LLC Data Breach

HME Specialists, LLC, a Home Medical Equipment company based out of New Mexico, has reported a data beach that may have affected 153,013 individuals.

The company, partnering with medical insurance providers, work directly with individuals to provide equipment such as manual and power, and pediatric custom wheelchairs, tilt and recline systems and more to enhance mobility and medical independence.

According to the report posted on the company’s website, HME Specialists became aware of suspicious activity in March 2021. A thorough investigation revealed that an unauthorized third-party had gained access to several HME email accounts, one or more of which contained identifying personal and protected health-related information of clients. Their investigation revealed that the incident/s occurred between June 24, 2020 and July 14, 2020.

Exposed data included:
• Names
• Dates of birth
• Social Security numbers
• Driver’s License numbers
• Credit card numbers
• Other financial account information
• Diagnosis and or treatment information
