David S. Casey, Jr. named one of state’s most influential attorneys

CaseyGerry managing partner David S. Casey Jr. has been recognized as one of the “100 Leading Lawyers in California” for 2016 by the Los Angeles Daily Journal, one of the legal profession’s preeminent publications.

Highlighting the state’s most influential legal practitioners, the list is compiled each year by Daily Journal staffers, and was published in a special supplement which appeared Sept. 21. A third generation attorney, Casey was selected not only for his considerable involvement in the legal community locally and nationally, but for his work on a number of high profile cases. Recent highlights include:

  • In Jan. of this year, Casey Jr. was appointed to the national VW Multidistrict Litigation (MDL) Plaintiffs’ Steering Committee overseeing litigation targeting Volkswagen over its diesel emissions scandal – one of the largest in class action history.
  • In May, he filed a lawsuit in San Diego Superior Court seeking to hold the tobacco industry accountable for baseball legend Tony Gwynn’s death.
  • For the last five years, he has served as state chair for Senator Dianne Feinstein’s judicial selection committee, working to find the most qualified judicial candidates for the federal bench in California.

In addition, he is past president of the Association of Trial Lawyers of America (now known as the American Association for Justice), past president of both the Consumer Attorneys of San Diego and the Consumer Attorneys of California, and serves on the board of the International Academy of Trial Lawyers. A fellow of the International Academy of Barristers, he is the recipient of more than 60 awards, including the “Legal Professional of the Year” from the San Diego County Bar Association, a Lifetime Achievement Award from Consumer Watchdog, the “Pursuit of Justice” award from the American Bar Association and the USD’s Author E. Hughes Career Achievement Award. Most recently, he was inducted into the Consumer Attorneys of San Diego’s “Trial Lawyer Hall of Fame.”

He received his bachelor’s degree from Trinity College and a law degree from the University of San Diego School of Law.
