FOR IMMEDIATE RELEASE

SAN DIEGO, Calif. — David S. Casey, Jr. – past president of the Association of Trial Lawyers of America (ATLA) and senior partner with Casey Gerry Reed & Schenk – will be honored with the Daniel T. Broderick III award at the 20th Annual Red Boudreau Trial Lawyers Dinner, Sat. Oct. 9.

To be held at the Manchester Grand Hyatt Hotel downtown, the event benefits St. Vincent de Paul Village and begins with a cocktail reception at 5:30 p.m., followed by dinner at 7 p.m.

According to event chairman Steven M. Boudreau (an attorney and the son of Red Boudreau), the award — named after Dan Broderick, a highly regarded local attorney who met an untimely death in 1989 — is presented each year to an accomplished trial lawyer who adheres to the highest standards of civility, integrity and professionalism.

The award is selected by a vote from representatives of each of the event’s co-sponsors: the Consumer Attorneys of San Diego, the American Board of Trial Advocates, the San Diego Defense Lawyers and the Association of Business Trial Lawyers of San Diego.

A third generation attorney, Casey has spent nearly 30 years practicing law in San Diego. Specializing in serious personal injury and wrongful death cases, he has long been recognized as a top lawyer in his field, and has obtained successful verdicts and settlements for dozens of high profile cases. He played a major role in the fight against the tobacco industry, representing the then-Lt. Gov. Gray Davis in tobacco litigation on behalf of the people of California.

He recently finished his tenure as president of ATLA, where he gained national recognition for his work to organize a moratorium on civil lawsuits related to the events of Sept. 11.

In addition, Casey is past president of both the Consumer Attorneys of San Diego and the Consumer Attorneys of California, has been inducted into the International Academy of Trial Lawyers and is a fellow of the International Academy of Barristers. He was also a volunteer attorney with Trial Lawyers Care — the largest pro bono legal program ever undertaken — which provided access to free legal services for eligible victims who applied for compensation under the federal September 11th Victim Compensation Fund.

The native La Jollan received his bachelor’s degree from Trinity College and a law degree from the University of San Diego School of Law. In 1974, he joined what is now Casey Gerry Reed & Schenk, which was founded by his father, David Casey Sr., more than 50 years ago.

Named after trial attorney Red Boudreau – a founding board member of St. Vincent de Paul Village and former president of the Consumer Attorneys of San Diego – the annual Red Boudreau dinner has been a tradition amongst members of San Diego’s legal community for 20 years. Fifteen years ago, the celebration took on a new dimension when friends of Dan Broderick decided to honor his memory by bestowing an award that promotes civility, integrity and professionalism in the field of trial advocacy.

Since then, some of San Diego’s most esteemed attorneys have received this award, which is presented by the San Diego County Bar Association.

Established in 1947, Casey Gerry Reed & Schenk is the oldest plaintiffs’ law firm in San Diego. The firm’s thirteen attorneys practice in numerous areas, including personal injury, pharmaceutical drug, asbestos, wrongful death and products liability litigation.
