Dedicated to the pursuit of justice

Casey Gerry’s David S. Casey, Jr. Honored With ABA’s Pursuit Of Justice Award

September 29, 2009 Press Releases

SAN DIEGO, Calif.   – Continuing to receive national recognition, San Diego trial attorney David S. Casey, Jr. will receive the “Pursuit of Justice” award — the latest in a series of high profile honors — from the American Bar Association (ABA), 6:30 p.m., Thursday, October 8, the Hotel del Coronado in San Diego.

The ABA’s Tort Trial & Insurance Practice (TIPS) Section is honoring Casey — a senior partner with Casey Gerry and recent recipient of Consumer Watchdog’s Lifetime Legal Achievement award — with the award, which recognizes lawyers and judges who have shown outstanding merit and who excel in providing access to justice for all.

This latest honor will be presented to Casey at the TIPS section’s fall leadership meeting.

According to TIPS chair John Tarpley, “Casey has unsurpassed credentials and is the epitome of what this award represents.  His dedication to the 9/11 Victims Compensation Fund and the Exxon Valdez oil spill litigation are prime examples of his commitment to providing access to justice for all and we are honored to present him with this award.”

Casey, who has practiced for more than 30 years in the area of serious personal injury and wrongful death litigation, was recently recognized in Los Angeles, along with actor Dennis Quaid, at Consumer Watchdog’s annual Rage for Justice Awards. He was also lauded last week by the Los Angeles Daily Journal as one of California’s “Top 100 Attorneys.”

Over the years, Casey has been recognized for numerous high profile issues and cases, including his work in organizing the 9/11Victims Compensation Fund and for his pro bono involvement in assisting victims of 9/11.  Additionally, he represented former California Governor Gray Davis in successful tobacco litigation, helping to achieve a recovery of $25 billion for the state, and is winding up 21 years of involvement in litigation resulting from the Exxon Valdez oil spill.  He also played a lead role in representing American prisoners of war in litigation against Japanese companies charged with abusing World War II slave laborers.

For the past 10 years he has served on the San Diego County Federal Judicial Selection Committee under Senator Dianne Feinstein and was recently appointed by the senator to chair the statewide effort for judicial selection of Federal Court Judges, U.S. Attorneys and U.S. Marshals.

He is the son of the first recipient of the Pursuit of Justice award, David S. Casey, Sr.   In addition to his recent kudos,  Casey has received a multitude of honors and awards, including recognition as Lawyer of the Year by the San Diego County Bar Association, as Outstanding Trial Lawyer Award from the San Diego Trial Lawyer Association; the Peacemaker Award from the San Diego Mediation Center; the Harry M. Philo Award from the Association of Trial Lawyers of America; and the Daniel T. Broderick Memorial Award, which recognizes high standards of civility, integrity and professionalism.   In addition, The Consumer Attorneys of San Diego annually presents the Perpetual Consumer Advocate Award in Casey’s name.

He earned his Bachelor of Arts Degree from Trinity College and his J.D. from the University of San Diego School of Law, which awarded him the Author E. Hughes Career Achievement Award in 2003.
