BioPlus Notifies 350,000 Patients of Data Privacy Incident

Current and past patients of BioPlus Specialty Pharmacy Services LLC (BioPlus) were recently notified of a data breach that may have compromised highly sensitive personal and health-related data.

The HIPAA Journal reported that notifications were sent to 350,000 BioPlus patients who may have been impacted by the cyber security incident.

According to the notice of breach filed with the Office of Vermont Attorney General’s Office, the company became aware of suspicious activity on November 11, 2021. Their investigations revealed their systems were accessed by an unauthorized third party sometime between October 25 and November 11, 2021.

The data breach exposed identifying information including patient name, address, date of birth, and Social Security number. Health information including diagnosis, prescription, medical record number, health plan ID number and claim information was also compromised.
